I have brought me a EHEIM Professional 2322 Thermofilter with built in heater

I had a bargain £10 from my local carboot sale, which i took a chance on it.

I got it back and superb it all works.

It is missing the spraybar, and it didnt come with any MECH or SUBSTRAT PRO.

The chap who sold it me said it can be run just by useing the coarse filter pad and fine filter pad filter together in the bottom tray, and a fine filter pad in the top tray, without useing MECH and SUBSTRAT PRO

Is this correct or should i use the MECH and SUBSTRAT PRO

Also, should i use a non return valve on both of the pipes for the in and out, and where would be best to fit them.

Don’t use any non return valves in the filter, they aren't necessary.

The filter will still work without the spray bar but instead of the water coming out in little jets it will simply come out of the outlet pipe.

You can pop down to any petshop and buy a course filter sponge to go in the filter. Buy whatever is cheapest and cut it down with a pr of scissors. Alternatively buy a genuine Eheim sponge. You can use the beads, noodles or whatever you want. Personally I just use sponges because they hold bacteria and trap the gunk. They are also cheaper to buy than most other media.

I buy pond sponges for my filters and just cut them down, plus any sort of media will do, you don't have to buy Eheim stuff.

this will cut down on the cost if you buy generic stuff rather than specific manufacture filtration media.

Thanks for the advice

I will go with the filter pads, sounds the cheaper option

Thank you
