if you can afford the 2236 then get it.
when you upgrade your tank you won't need to upgrade the filter

no you can adjust the fow rate but you can disipate the return by aiming the spray bar to the glass rather than to the tank (that make sense?)

Thanks for the reply!

I was thinking the same thing on the upgrade, because I'm certain I'll upgrade tanks in the future. As for "aiming the spray bar to the glass rather than to the tank", don't worry, that makes perfect sense. :)

I'm just worried that even after I aim the spray bar to the glass, my fish will find the current too strong. I have a pair of juvie angelfish and half a dozen harlequin rasboras.

I have the Eheim Ecoo 2236 in my 29 Gallon (UK) and it is brilliant! I went for overkill as I am overstocked (Malawi Cichlids).

Go for it if you can afford it.

Julia

ps I have the spray bar just below the surface and angled into the water, I do not find the flow to be a problem.

Thanks for the reply julibob. How are your cichlids handling the current, and how did you position the spray bar?

Just one thing, I want to know how quiet is this model compared to other Eheim filters. I was reading it isn't as quiet as the Classic or Professional series, is that true, and is there really an audible sound if the room is silent?

All I can hear coming from my tank is the huge Clearseal air pump for my air curtain. I find the Eheim just as quiet as the Fluval internal that came with the tank.

I have the spray bar just below the surface of the water pointing slightly down and towards the front of the tank. The fish are not bothered by it at all. In fact, after reading that cichlids dont particularly care for much aeration, they seem to love the air curtain and sit in the bubbles.

Hope this helps.

Julia

Thanks for the reply julibob. And yea, if you use an airpump, the sound of all the bubbles rising will be loud enough to drown out the sound of a potentially noisy filter.

Anyone else have any thoughts or advice to share?
