Hi I have a Eheim Pro II 2028 filter , I cleaned it today and now I cant get it to work, It wont take in the water for some reason and when I press the prime button it sends up a bubble of air through the intake pipe. Its making a strange noise like its rattleing on something. Please help after the week Ive had loosing half my fish to a illness I now cant cope that they are sitting in unfiltered and unheated water ( my filter and heater are one unit )
I have spent 2 hrs now looking at this thing and I cant see what is wrong.
any sudgestions would be very much appreciated
thanks

I know it sounds stupid and I'm sure you've done this already, but check all the connections on all pipes and that the lid is connected correctly. If you disconnected piping, make sure it's all plugged into the correct bit (inlet plugged into inlet socket, etc.).

I'm just clutching at straws, really. In my 2026, I had an issue where the little pipe which sticks out from the main lid unit thingie got stuck in the top basket. I didn't notice and closed it all up.. It made some odd noises because the flow wasn't going through the filter the way it should've. Could be something like that.

I don't have one of those filters but I can make a guess...

The pump is trying to pump air and is therefore rattling about and not getting anywhere.

You HAVE to fill the ENITIRE system with water - minimal air and this HAS to INCLUDE the tubes.

1.) Turn it off
2.) Close off the INLET pipe somehow.
3.) Take the OUTLET pipe out of the tank.
4.) Stick a funnel in the end & hold it above the filter so the pipe is straight down to the filter.
5.) Start filling it with tank water.
6.) Every now and then, wiggle the filter to release any trapped air.
7.) Open the INLET valve
8.) Point the OUTLET pipe into the tank (DONT let any air get back into the filter)
9.) Cross fingers
10.) Turn her on...

I dunno if this'll work... but you never know!

Yeah re-starting filters can be fun!

do what andy said, make sure the filter is completely and utterly full.

you may have to press the prime button repeatedly (i know this is true for other eheim filters, don't know your specific model so maybe someone can confirm). if all else fails get it hooked up and turned out, inlet under water and suck on the outlet pipe to get water moving through. might get a mouthfull of tank water but it should kick it into life

Hi and thanks for advice, I stripped the whole thing down and started again I cant tell you how many times, I have cried at the thought of watching all my fish die and I have shouted at the kids for disturbing me, and finally after 3 hrs its working, still not sure what the problem was except it seemed that their was an air bubble in the canister But sadly Im not really sure. What I am sre of is that I am now terrified of cleaning filter again in case I encounter same problem.
I cant tell you how relieved I am
Better find out what it was the kids wanted now, probably just their lunch or something equally unimportant?

Thanks again everyone it been a horrible day.

he he go see to your kids.

air trapped in the filter is the worst for them not starting. i don't know if you can on your model but on another filter i have you can close off the filter in/out tubes before you turn it off. this holds the water in them basically, so to get it to restart you then just have to make sure the cannister itself is full of water and plug it in and it'll go again.

don't panic though, each model tends to have a knack to getting it started again, you'll soon find it for yours :good:
