Hi everyone,
I came back to the hobby in 2011 and since then I have had a few 55 gallon and 75 gallon tanks, always using Eheim canister filters from the classic series. I used to love them. Last September, the central brace of my 55g Aqueon tank broke after only 5 years of use (no more Aqueons for me). I decided to upgrade to a 75 gallon and got a brand new Eheim classic canister filter 600 (previously known as 2217). Since I got a few juvenile rainbowfish, I started feeding them baby brine shrimp. As I always did in the past, I would switch the filter off during feedings. But on several occasions, when turning the filter back on the metal clips of the filter would pop off and the top lid of the canister would open, flooding my hardwood floors. Then I read reports online from other people experiencing the same issue:
I have replaced the clips of the canister, as Eheim customer support suggested to another user, but the problem remained. The problem has not resulted from the usual causes: it is not the O-ring (it is a new filter), no kinked hose, blocked outlet, etc.
This is of course a huge disappointment and a potentially catastrophic malfunction. If electricity goes off and back on when nobody is at home, the whole tank can potentially leak and destroy my floors.
Has anyone else experienced these issues? What happened to Eheim? It used to be such a reliable company.
What canister would you recommend that is reliable? I will need to part my ways with Eheim.
Thanks.
