I have a new 2215 Eheim filter. How often should I change the blue sponges?

Is it possible to just rinse the sponges or do I have replace them?

Does the filter media ever have to be replaced?

You don't need to replace the sponges unless they are falling apart, just rinse them in old tank water or other dechlorinated water. In fact if bio-media (usually ceramic rings or bio-balls) comes with that filter you can rinse the sponges (just the sponges) under tapwater as the sponges will function as mechanical filtration and the bio-media will be your biological filtration. Your bio-media can be lightly rinsed in tank water.

Bio-media doesn't need to be replaced, carbon should be replaced according to the manufacturer, the same with phosphate removers. :good:
