Hey guys

i'm running a eheim filter and i'm getting alot of Organic matterial forming on the top of my water (looks hazy white kinda like oil on water), partly to do with EI and co2 and food.. but anyways, what do you guys use... to help get rid of this.. do you use any skimmer of any kind.. etc

I use paper kitchen towels just lay them on the surface for half a second and take them out, another option is to use a piece of airline tube and place it so that a small part of it is breaking the surface and siphon out some of the water, when you get the right position it clears the water surface without removing much water.

hey man,

well i tried your little trick with the air hose and breaking the surface.. actually worked pretty good. Course i couldnt get all of it, but it looks 95% better. Makes the tank look alot clearer looking at it from the top and it took hardly any water out and i was there for a good 10 minutes trying to get as much as i could. Good idea :0 thanks

eheim do a surface skimmer for thier cannisters
(product number 35350000) retails about £15.
it is an attchement that goes on the intake pipe and allows a small
amount if water to be draw in via the surface, the rest from below.

that would be the product i'm looking for. Anyone know where to get it in canada or the US

I use one of these compatibles and it works well with minimum surface agitation (I had exactly the same problem when I set up).

Theres a little faffing around involved when you first set it up getting the right ratio between surface and tank flow rates, and you may occasionally get air passing through your filter, but Ive never had an air lock with it.
