im not femiliar with eheim, but i ran across a 2227 model and a 2228 model. now, the 2227 is being sold for 160 and the 2228 is being sold for 175. which one should i buy? and which one is better for a 65 gallon tank. PLS HELP ASAP

i dont understand how people are looking at my thread and not saying anything? im new to this all im asking for is some suggestions and help. and so far no one has said anything. is it because i'm new to this?

While I am no expert, I see that nobody else is offering any help so I'll give it a shot...

The Eheim 2227 is rated at 227 gph and for tanks up to 90 gallons.
The Eheim 2228 is rated at 273 gph and for tanks up to 160 gallons.

For a 65 gallons tank, I think you should be doing well with the 2227. :good:

I hope I was of some help.

thanks for your help. i'm new at this so i dont really know anything about it yet. i had some fishes in my tank and most of them died. everything was perfect tho. from the ph level to ammonia level etc. i think its because the filter i have is fairly old and was given to me when i bought the tank. its a fluval 203. i might just settle with the 2228 its only 15 dollars more than the 2227 and is a better filter. anyway, thanks for your help. seeing that there's thousands of people on this forum and ur the only one that bothered to help.

I think I too would go for the 2228, as you say, it's a small price difference for the extra performance.
You should also be able to control the flowrate of the filter (?) because you may find that the flowrate is a bit quick for your tank.

The 'optimum' filtering turnover figure I see around here is "5x" per hour, so working with the figures from Jim:

The Eheim 2227 is rated at 227 gph and for tanks up to 90 gallons.
The Eheim 2228 is rated at 273 gph and for tanks up to 160 gallons.
Your tank 65 Gallons

2227 = 3.49x / Hr
2228 = 4.2x / Hr

So that would confirm it for me, I'd go for the 2228.

(Just to confuse the matter, I don't know how Eheim quote their flowrates as I can't find the info on it, but it seems to be a 'market trend' that external filter flowrates are quoted without media, and at 0 head, (so effectively the PUMP flowrate, not the FILTER flowrate), so you will likely get flowrates less than those given above once it's actually on your tank. However, the 2228 is still a better filter in terms of turnover and a small cost difference :good: )
