I got this filter for free from a friend but, I noticed that it leaks a tiny little bit in one corner where the lid and the canister part come together. Any ideas how to stop this? Or should I get a new filter or not worry about it?

:X :/

Hi,

I dont know if this will help but if the leak is where the lid and body join together then you could try taking the lid off and putting it back on. Also when the lid is off just make sure that there is no grit or dust or anything on the seal, it is amazing how the tiniest most inconspicuous bit of dust can cause trouble for seals.

Hope this helps,

Rich

I'll try that but, before he gave it to me he told me he thought it leaked a little but he wasn't sure. Maybe I could trim around where the seal is with foam?

See I don't think it does because I checked it and it looks fine. I'm actually not even sure if its leaking from there now. There was water in the handle part of it. The part where they come together. (the top/cover and the canister part) is below the handle. IDK I think I'll just hook it back up for now and try and figure out where its leaking from.

A leak happens in the older model. I recently bought an Eheim 2028 to find out it was leaking alot. :-( But, after a bit of research, the original model came out with a manufacturer error. The only way to tell is if the plastic arm in the middle of the handle which you pull to release the two hoses is grey. If it is grey, youve got the old leaking model, which leaks into the lid, causing an eventual overflow at the join. Talk to a local store holder of Eheim parts or the UK manufacturor (bad spelling sorry). They should issue you a new part with a red arm in the middle of the two hose joins free of charge. :good: If that doesnt work, and if you have a new model, replace both seals. Check to see if the middle O ring hasnt got any imperfections and makes ure you pull and push the pump in the right way. Get instructions from eheim.com. :good:

Where the pump head meets the filter body is a rubber seal

Rubber seals eventually lose their ability to spring back and form the seal

First of all, try prising out the rubber seal ( without nicking or cutting it ) wash it thoroughly in hot water and then once dry lightly coat the seal in vaseline/petroleum jelly

If it still leaks a new seal costs £6 from John Allen aquariums, they hold all the spares for Eheim filters and it is delivered the next day

The 2028 is one of the best filters on the market but parts still wear on them the same as any filter

I think I've got the red arm but I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about any pics? I'm getting a new seal for free so yeah no need to wash it.
