hi,

I have a pair of egyptian mouthbrooders and the female now has a mouth FULL of eggs.

Is there anything special I should do now such as removing the male?

I've noticed the female dropped one or two and the male scooped them up, I guess he is eating them?

How long such I expect to wait for the eggs to hatch and do I remove the fry or leave them with the adults?

Egypt is part of the Old world Studz ;) But oh well.

I would remove the male if you can and just give the female a tank to herself if you can?

If it's just the female and the fry then they will be fine together but if your keeping them with the male some are likely to be eaten. Or you could strip the female and just keep the fry seperate?

oops, well cichlids arent my thing really I just have a few dwarf species :) so wasnt sure.

I've put the female in her own tank, but she has spit out a few eggs, I think she has scooped some of them back up, hopefully I'll get some fry from her at least.

Cheers Jay

Wasn't about cichlids, 'twas geography

Hope it goes well.

I was considering getting a few of these for my 25g. What size tank are yours in?

I have a single pair in a 5gal, if you have more I'd go with one male to like 5 females, from what I've read
they are really nice fish, a little agressive I did have them with some dwarf cockatoo cichlids but the male hassled the male cockatoo

What happened, too not being into cichlids except a few dwarf species, an oscar is quite a bit away from a dwarf.

What do you want the final stocking of it to be? What sort of decor is there? Any pics?

thats true, but always wanted an oscar, come on to Chat :) I'm there now

not sure on final stocking, decor: 3' peice of bogwood, 2x medium bits og bogwood, a peice of monapi wood, a load of fake plants, a couple of caves and a large synthetic rock with caves built into it, and a sand substrate

I thought i was the only one to keep these pretty fish
Ive successfully bred these fish twice, my biggest batch was 26, i sold them on now though.
If they were the only fish in the tank the best thing to do is move the male, as it wont cause the female much stress, im not sure on how long the eggs take to hatch, i think its a little over 2 weeks, like i said im not sure i haven't tried breeding mine in a while.

well unfortunatly the female has either eaten or discarded the eggs :( I've put her back in with the male, maybe next time lucky
