I tried to breed my bettas over the weekend. first I put her in a 1 gallon tank beside the breeding tank, which he was already in. once he saw her, he strutted his stuff for an hour or two and then starting building his nest. the next day I put her in and he showed off for a while and then went back to building his nest. by the third day he had a really impressive nest built but I was not sure that they had spawned so I left her in there. by day four (monday), she was hiding from him and did not want to come near him so I got her out of there. today is day five, and I'm still don't know if they spawned or not! behavior seemed to indicate so but I can't see anything in the bubblenest! I know the aggs are supposed to be tiny, but should I be able to see them??? are there some things I should be looking for??? How do I know?
thanks!

Hmm, did she ever get her breeding stripes? Just curious because if she was scared the entire time, they probably didn't breed. You're right, the eggs are very small and sometimes hard to notice, but keep watching! If there are eggs up there, you will notice them falling frequently, and maybe even some near the bottom. Look for signs of daddy picking them back up and putting them in the bubble nest. After a day or so, if you don't see any of these signs, I would try them again. If he doesn't tear her up too bad, i would leave her in a little longer, sometimes they take awhile to spawn. I had to try mine several times before they finally spawned.

light colored fish don't get bars. does she still look like shes full of eggs? you could try taking her out for a week and if you don't see any fry then put her back in, but make sure she full of eggs. also make sure they are sized up properly.

That's helpful! she is light colored and didn't notice any stripes, but I wasn't looking for that either cause I didn't know. I will watch for falling eggs tonight.
