Egg Fertilization?

How do the eggs of a betta get fertilized? All the books say how the male squeezes the eggs out, but obviously they need to be fertilized. Does the male release sperm by the bubblenest?

the male lines up his vent hole with the females ovipositer, and as he squeezes her, both eggs and sperm come out, mix, then the fertlized eggs fall to the bottem of the tank.
