I have a medicine containing oxitetracicline as the active ingredient. It are medicated flakes with vitamines, used to treat columnaris, ulcers and other bacterial infections. Does anybody know how effective this active ingredient is?

Its very good, but what are you treating for as I would only use that med in issolation.

I am treating a dwarf gourami for an ulcer. I have isolated him in a separate tank. I have used acriflavine before, but the ulcer is not disappearing, so I finished the this medication, and decided to go with this medicated food.

Ok, ulcer are pink or red with a dead circling of skin around the edges.
Also ulcers can be a sign of parasites so keep an eye on the other fish.
Good luck.

The ulcer has a red centre, but the scales around it look normal. It has had it for 2 weeks now, but luckily still lively, and eating. I think it was caused by stress, as dwarf gouramis are prone to this.... I have been watching my other fish, but they seem to be ok, no signs of ulcers.

Thanks for the help!

Good luck.
Go to the gourami section as well as there seem to be coming down with the gourami virus.

Yes, thanks. I have been in contact with Sylvia, SouthernCross and Jozlyn on the issue. Problem is that since I'm based in Mexico, I have to find out first what the active ingredient is, and then hope somebody can give me advice on it, since all the brands people mention are not available here.

Do a search on the med is tetracycline.
