Eel Problems At Lfs

I went into my lfs this morning and saw an empty looking tank ,but upon closer inspection i found a little head of what i think was a spiny eel of somesort (hard to tell from the head alone) i have been looking for one of these for ages as i have never seen one in a shop before. It had no info on the tank so i asked how much it was and they told me that they couldn't sell it because it had been in there for 2 years and buries itself when some one goes near it with a net. Im so frustrated to have finally found one and not been able to get it ,so near yet so far

Take it out manually. (Hands).

Put some bait in the net. And wait for it to draw near.

i doubt they will ever bother , i dunno if they even feeding it (its on its own) or just waiting for it to die

Is it posible that what you saw was a Horse Faced Loach, pics;

? They bury themselves in the substrate, can be quite shy, and their face sorta resembles that of a spiny eel's face shape-wise.

to be honest i didn't get a great look at it but the women did call it an eel

i don't suppose anyone knows where to get peacock eels or and small eels from do they?

Surely even if they give you the sand it's hiding in, they should sell it? Strange in my view!

does anyone know roughly how much a peacock eel would cost me? also if i get my lfs to get me one would they charge? (must be people who work in fish shops here)
