I'm setting up a new 24l x 12w x 18h tank as a low tech planted tank (no CO2, 1.5WPG) and have decided to use Eco-complete as a substrate. How much of it will I need for a 2 inch deep layer?

Leading on from the previous question, can you use this substrate, followed by gravel on top, and can you still vacume the gravel after.

Eco is really a full substrate, so shouldn't put gravel on top. Tetra Complete on the other hand can be put under gravel (about 3cm is recommended).

Thanks :good:

One other question, how easy is it to clean compared to sand? With sand I can move the syphon hose about 5-10mm above the surface and manage to suck up all the fish poo and leave most of the sand behind. Will this work with eco-complete or will I end up sucking up half the substrate along with the poo?

Good question :) I've not used it (yet) so couldn't comment too much. I can tell you the granules is a mixture of sizes ranging from small to pea gravel size from what I'm told. Not sure if that helps ;)

no need for python

ur plants should use it as ferts

if u decide to vaccum

all ur sand particles in the eco will be gone

leave the poop, substrates is black anyways
