To cut a story short I added eco-complete to my tank when it had a inch of water in it. This lead to a lot of light sand being mixed with the water. When I added more water the tank was cloudy. After leaving it overnight a fine layer of sand had settled over everything. The problem is it keeps getting disturbed every time I try and do something e.g. planting, etc.

Will it eventually settle into the substrate?

Also my filter is a bit cheap and the filter sponge isn't very fine at all -

Could this be why the tank is still so cloudy/dirty?

It's probably just the pure fact that you have a finer-grained sand which has a smaller density than, say, gravel. I don't think it would have anything to do with your filter. Everytime I clean my nano reef, the sandbed kicks up a lot of sand, but it'll usually go away within a few hours with or without the filter running.

did you give the eco afew rinses before you added to the tank, as this helps rid of the fine particals before you add the water

It comes WET and doenst need rinsing....
Mine is under an inch of argos playsand ! and has never clouded the water - you sand is the likely culprit, but as its already in situ all you can do is filter it out and/or do a lot of water changes.
