Anyone tried this system off ebay? or care to comment?

ebay item

I'm trying to decide between pressurised or yeast based CO2, what are the running costs of each like?

I was looking at that too !!

if there are cannister replacements available in the uk it may be an option for a small tank

I'm guessing that the thread is a standard size so I reckon refills could be found. I guess someone needs to buy one and find out

btw when you say option for a small tank, how small? I'm looking for something for my 120 litre tank

try looking here on ebay for the regulator, not sure on the quality though, but for the price looks good.

Then you will need a needle vavle from here again from ebay, please dont be put off that it is from germany, many people have used that ebay seller with good results.

You can then either use disposable bottles, which you will need an adaptor for aqua essentials have these, or why not use a fire extinguisher which again look on ebay, you can normaaly get a 2kg for about £28.00 delievered.

Have a read through this,

Cheers Gordon

Thanks for the link, is that machine mart stuff no good then? (a bit more expensive but the regulator looks a straight fit for the bottle, the adapters on aqua essentials seem to convert a disposable regulator to a refillable one).

What's the needle valve for btw? is that just so you can turn off the CO2?

I've had a read of the fire extinguisher before, I wanted to avoid that tbh - not keen on the possibility of explosions

the only reason i put a link to the reg was because of price, even if you buy from machine mart you will still need a needle vavle, the needle valve is so you can get an accurate bubble per second rate, a bubble counter is used for this. If you still want to use disposable bottles this link is cheaper than machine mart for the reg, needle valve still needs to be purchased.

Cheers Gordon

EDIT i use a fire extinguisher as a lot of people on this forum does with no problems

sod it, fire extinguisher it is then, if I blow up the house I'm blaming you

thanks for the advice :good:

Just have a read of the link i posted above
which is this, its every thing you need to know about using a fire extinguisher, just keep the bottle upright when in use, and be careful not to knock it over.

And your welcome to the advice.

Cheers Gordon

bought this in the end for the bottle, just a little neater than a fire extinguisher :)

Yep that will do the trick, a nice find mate.

this thread is REALLLY interesting....

First the company at the top sells 4.99 for 3 refills.

they also do this? Link

Thoughts?

Also the other bottle that was on here with the regulator? did we confirm if it was a needle valve?

The trouble with those £4.99 refills is the £11.00 postage, but I guess that's still only £15 for 3 refills which is cheaper than here or about the same

I'm not sure on that regulator you posted, from what I've seen most people seem to use the regulators with two gauges - I guess this tells you how much CO2 is left as well as the pressure of what you're putting out, that single one will only tell you one of the two (not sure which  )

what other bottle??
