Eating Algae Wafers?

I raw feed. I feed my mollies and platys a variety of freeze dried and frozen foods. Every few days I throw a piece of zucchini or cucumber in the tank for my two otos to eat. The mollies and platys ignore the veggies. Yesterday and today, I threw in an algae wafer in the tank for the otos. The mollies and platys had it gone in less than 10 minutes. Threw one in my 5 gallon tank for my snails. The fry (molly and platy) went after it.

My question is that am I missing something in their diet or do they occasionally eat algae wafers? I thought that mollies and platys mainly ate "meat" and occasionally some veggie matter. I mean, their reaction to the algae wafer was like a dog on a meaty bone.

Thanks!

I have this problem too! My guppies always eat the wafers before my bristle-nose have time to get to them. Haven't tried them on veg, might be my next option.

Mollies and platies actually do love to munch on algae and vegetation in the wild so you could try and feed a crushed up one and drop the whole ones in for the otos, while the mollies and platies. Are already occupieing them selves

Problem with that is, they finish eating theirs and move on to the wafer.

my guppies eat it before my oto's get a chance to eat them as well.
But one of the oto's will lie on it to protect some of it.

My platies eat peas like its their form of heaven. Have you tried blanching the zuccini...I notcie my platies eat it better if its been cooked soft.

By the time they a done, they don't even know when it's on the bottom, and when they do. The otos already get there fair share :good:
