Basiclly i am looking for fish that produce very little ammonia, because it means i can leave water changes a little longer. This is just a theroretical question btw, i dont skimp on my current water changes. Basiclly i think i know what the answer is. Understock as much as possible and with plenty of plants. But are there any fish that are known for producing less amonia? I think the smaller the fish the less ammonia? Just a question, throw out all your answers and opinions :)

in general smaller fish and understock, however it depends on the species, some are just bigger waste producers than others. i would expect it depends on diet and how they're body processes the food we give them which obviously affects how much waste they produce.

take for example boraras bridgitte, officialy they're about 3/4" long. so are some pygmy cories, however the boraras are waaaay skinnier and would produce a miniscule amount of waste compared to the cories who would produce more. so you can't just work on the length of the fish.

can't think of examples really, fishy biology is not my specialist subject! But I assume that low waste producing fish fed on a specific diet would be best.

Tetras and rasboras produce little waste; corys don't make much either. Livebearers make more waste than them. Just understock and you'll be good. :)
