like the title says, what is the EASIEST way to rinse off sand after its bought?

i have a 20lb bag of tahitian moon sand (i think thats what it says) and another 50lb bag of generic tan/brown aquarium sand.

is that enough sand, or should i have some gravel down on the bottom of the tank? right now i have probably 20-25lbs of gravel in the tank with approx 25-30 small fish and live plants. (it is a 29 gallon tank)

**This is with standard Pool filter sand but should apply to all **

I've used two methods. The first was with a smaller amount of sand, I took a 5 gallon bucket and filled it about half way with sand and then put a hose in it and ran it out mixing the sand with a stick, it worked well and took probably around 10 minutes.

The second way was when I needed sand for my 20 gallon and didnt want to spend a lot of time cleaning it, this is what I would reccomend for someone who needs to clean a lot of sand... Take an old pillowcase (probably better check with parents/significant other to make sure its ok) and dump as much sand as you want into the pillow case. then do the same, add the hose and be sure to have the pillowcase elevated somehow so the water has somewhere to go. I put it on our wooden deck and that let the water seep through easier. Then just shake the pillowcase around 3 or 4 times til the sand is cleaned. It shouldn't take more than ten minutes and can clean a lot of sand
