As a teenager in NYC, my best friend and has dad had a running bet every year. It was whether the first snowfall of the year would happen before or after Thanksgiving. Right now we have snow flurries here. I cannot remember the last time we had snow flakes this early. I live about 30 miles NNE of NYC as the crow flies.

Global warming lol.
I've got about 4-5 inches on the ground right now. Tomorrow will be 55 and it will all be gone. Thank goodness.

October 29, 2011 there was a freak snowstorm that affected NYC and the northeast. I remember it well. We were at a wedding that night.

I should have remembered that as I have had a utility tractor with a 42 inch snow thrower mounted on the front since 2000. Out driveway and carport make it almost impossible to clear using a plow. So I fired our plow guy and got the first tractor. I am om my second one now. But is has a bigger engine and power steering. Us old folks need all the help we can get. We also tend to forget things like that snow storm.

It is still snowing lightly, but it is not sticking. It was only on the past day or two that our overnight lows toucjed below freezing and they are back up. I doubt we will see snow again this month and if we do it still wont stick.

it's been a while that we had snow in November... It seems that each year we get less and less snow... And maybe it's because of the global warming... Who knows...?

I remember my dad making a "snow turkey" 1 Thanksgiving. & yes, a frozen tail on my Halloween cat outfit complete with a plastic bag cover as a small kid. Were those the good old days?!? Another reason not to move "home" to Michigan any time soon, lol.

the closest I get to snow here is ash raining down on us during a bushfire (wild fire for the Americans)

There's a dusting on the back deck this morning, but it doesn't count since I didn't see it fall. I'm thinking it's late this year. I've seen snow in mid to early October. It's not rare around Hallowe'en.
Early snow tends not to stay around here and it's often followed by fog, and the fog devours it. It's often green/brown here til well into January now. Being close to the Atlantic ocean has some benefits. If you go 15km inland, you can have snow on the ground from November to April some years.
I like the first few snowfalls, and a blizzard can be a show. But it's a long cold winter and it wears you down by Spring. I'm always glad to see it come, then go.
I put some solar led lights out yesterday, on some of the evergreens. I don't celebrate christmas, but I get the timing of it. Those colourful lights break up the greys and browns of the season.
