Dying Plants

i purchased two live plants from the LFS about a week and a half ago and they have been slowly getting brown. I've tested the water multiple times and made water changes but nothing is helping them. The base of the tank is gravel and the aquarium is in semi direct sunlight (through turned up blinds). the aquarium about 6 inches away from it is starting to develop blue green algae, but the live plants in it are doing very well. What could be the problem?

Do you know what kind of plants you've got? Some sold for aquariums are actually marginals and not meant to be permanently underwater and eventually die.

at the store they were in a pot that was buried. they were fully submerged

What lighting do you have aside from the direct sunlight? What is your tank's volume? It would be helpful if you could post a picture of the plant you got, or if you happen to be able to find out what the name of the plants are.
