hi im new here and have a problem with a male guppy all his body has gone a chalky colour (hes usually bright red) and his fins are all clamped tight together anyone any ideas what this could be and how to treat it ?

I'm not sure what is going on, but I do know that more information will be requested about the tank. Answering these questions will help:

What size tank?
How long has it been set up?
What are amonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels in the water? (hopefully you have a test kit)
What temp do you keep the water at?
What other fish are in the tank? (including their sizes is good, since we commonly see people list "pleco" wich could be 3 inches or 2 feet long)
Have their been any recent new fish in the tank?
What filtration do you use?
Have you recently changed the filter sponge / cartridge? (this could lead to amonia in the water, it is best to rinse the filter media in old tank water and put it back in)
Describe your maintenance routine (information like "I do a 25% water change every 2 weeks, and use a gravel vac to clean the gravel when I do.")
Do you treat new water when doing a water change? (to get rid of chlorine)

anyway, I know that is a lot of questions, but if you can answer as many as you can, I guarentee you will get much more usefull responses on how to help your fish. Good luck!

Water stats would be good.
How long have you had him.
The chalky appearance can be parasite, bacterial, to ph shock.
