in the last 2 weeks i have had 1 clown loach and 4 angle fish die on me
the clown loach had gone thin and had red marks down its sides
then found my big angle being attacked by dalmation mollies so moved them into another tank as they was new to tank a week earlier
2 days later it had like fur on its sides where it had been attacked and died
since then i have had 3 more angles die on me no marks on them just floating in tank wheni have got up in the morning

hi sirmotty,
this is bad. what have you done to improve matters. what size tank. what tank mates. what are tanks parameters, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH. what and how often do you feed. when and how bigger water changes do you do. how long has tank been set up

its a rio 180 bought the tank in october and transfered everything over water quality fine
seems to have happened since i introduced the dalmation mollies
feed them once a day
change 1/4of water every 2 weeks
tank consists of
2 silver dollars
cat fish
6 neons
2 dalmation mollies
1 angle fish now
3 clown loaches
40 babies what turned up over weekend

Clown laoches are well known for a desease called skinny desease which is internal parasites.
The red marks on the side was septicemia.
Yes tank need treating for internal parasites.

normally. This sickness is more difficult to treat, it comes from a parasite organism (spironucleus) in the intestines of the same type that is thought to cause the so called "discus disease". I have successfully removed this disease from newly imported fish by using Spirohexol from JBL in the form of tablets. I have taken one tablet and crushed it and dissolve it in as little water as possible. I have then used discus granules which have been soaked in the solution. It becomes like a thick porridge after a short time when the food has drawn in the liquid. I then feed this to the sick fishes, after a week it looks like the sickness is gone. For the best possible effect do not feed with any other food. Flagyl (Metronidazole) also helps fight against this sickness but at least here in Sweden it is on prescription and can be a little difficult to come by.

Apart from this Clown loaches are not more susceptible than other fish, the above sickness usually occurs in fish that have been stressed during transport or subjected to other stress factors like cold water or poor aquarium hygiene. Do not buy fish that look emaciated! Well looked after fish are seldom sick. To quote my friend Elisabeth Hallberg; "the best way to avoid sickness is to keep the fish healthy".
