I tried to create this in Emergencies but I don't have the correct permission so feel free to move it.
I recently bought 15 Mosquito Rasbora & 1 male & 5 females to put in a 72 litre recently cycled, HEAVILY planted tank.
I'm using a Hagen Nutrafin CO2 kit, heater set to 28c, Fluval Plus2 & an air pump with 2 airstones.
PH- Between 7.5 - 8
Nitrites - 0
Unable to test Nitrates & hardness.
I have a bit of green hair algae but nothing major really, seem to have more sort of brown specks on leaves & driftwood.
Now onto the fish problem.
Fish were fine after being put in the tank for a couple of hours. Then the Male Betta started acting odd, gulping a lot for air & being really skittish sort of going up to the surface at a 45degree angle & then shooting across the surface. Also slamming into the glass walls. I was sorta hoping he was just being aggressive & could see his reflection.
Then this morning he had lost most of his colour & had an extremely visible colourless patch on his body. His nose also had this colourloss efect as well. He was lifeless & just resting on either plant leaves or on the bottom when not near the surface gulping.
He later died.
Then 1 of the female bettas started to exhibit the same symptons, sorted gulping a lot, going up to the surface & skittering about, going up to the glass & attacking it. And then resting on the bottm lifeless & moving every now & again.
Since this morning I have not seen more than 11 of the Mosquito Rasbora at once. They are school, eating & generally looking okish.
Because of the amount of plants its hard to see all 5 female bettas at once but last I checked, 8ish hours ago before coming to work they all seemed to be there. Question is for how long?
BUT just before coming to work I noticed one of the Mosquito Rasbora doing the same thing. Staying near the surface, gulping air, skittering along the surface of the water, kinda being carried along by the current.
Big question, what do I do?
help,
slime
