Dyed Fish

There have been a few topics related to dyed fish lately, and something everyone was saying and agreed on was that the process was cruel and painful. However, what is this process, exactly?

Also, before anyone mentions them, the yellow/pink/orange danios are NOT DYED. They are genetically modified.

i believe the process is basically you dip the fish in some acid which strips back slime coating and any other natural protection the fish has, then dip it into some dye.
 
coloured angels/glassfish are either held by someone and a coloured line is painted on the scales. The other option is where a coloured dye is injected under the scales. Painting the scales is the most common method.
