hi guys :)
today i was surfing the internet when up popped a pop up trying to sell me some prototype of a -playstation 3- and i thought thats illegal i could get them done for that so i clicked on it and it came up with its ' amazing list of offers' and about half way down the pge was to my disgust that they were selling dyed fish! they had force fed some fish dye- they were selling yellow red and green fish! they were half dead and it was disgusting- how can they do this?! its an outrage!!!

yeah, its disgusting alright. but FYI, don't click on obviously fraudulent links (such as places selling "prototypes" or a "Playstation 8"). these websites aren't necessarily trying to make money by selling illegal or fake items, they may be attempts to install viruses and other harmful programs onto your computer.

i'd definately be concerned about a visit to the site you just mentioned because dying fish is not accomplished by feeding them paint. this website is definately up to no good and is fraudulent on a wide scope--if you don't already have a virus protection program, you should acquire that software from a reputable source immediately. i also would not make any online purchases or enter any sensitive information (such as work/ebay/paypal passwords, financial information, etc.) before performing a detailed scan of your computer.

I agree with the above reply.

If you haven't got a firewall on your computer there is a one you can download called zonealarm which is free for home user, search for it on google if you need one :)

If you are on dial-up Id phone the telephone company and get them to put a bar on premium rate numbers as a mate from work ended up with a massive phone bill after being hijacked by a trojan thingymabob.

Forgot to say before but you can now also download a free anti-spyware program from the microsoft website called Microsoft AntiSpyware! Just to be on the safe side!

Yea, if you're trying to look for things that don't exist (aka Playstation 8, although 3 is almost out :D), don't you think it would be on the news? It's really dangerous for you to go on those kinds of websites, cause I've had to format my computer countless times because of viruses.

I agree, you'll definitely want to scan your computer for malware now. If you don't already have these things, I recommend AVG Free Antivirus (because it's free, lol,) and Spybot. The first time I downloaded Spybot, which was years ago, I was amazed at the kind of crap that was on my comp that I didn't even know about!
Xoftspy is another great program, but you have to pay for it unless you have pirate friends like I do

Hi tetrafan :)

It's sad to say, but dyed fish are not at all uncommon. Now that you are aware of them, you might even notice them for sale, from time to time, at your lfs. :/

This time of year be especially wary of fish that they dye in holiday colors. "Christmas Corys," which have red or green patches on them are really dyed albino corys, for example. Their life expectancy is short.

Or, just use linux, like me :)

BTW, these dyed fish, they're more like "died" fish...its really cruel. I really hate it..Good thing they haven't gotten popular in India. We get a lot of dyed birds in the market though. I feel really sorry for them :(

hi :) i have ad-aware and norton so im sorted virus wise and yes i did get about 10 virusis and yes they are all gone now- thanks for your concerns.
i still think that dyed fish is wrong- i mean 'christmas corys'

Most of the time they dye ice fish, and theres like this little tube in there stomach that glows. When I was little I bought one, not knowing how cruel it was, and it ended up dieing the next day.

A few years ago I saw some glass fish with striking colours along their backs, pink, green, blues etc. I'm told they inject the die into the fish. Before I knew what they did I brought some which became ill and the dye stated to leach out of them not nice. Please do not encourage this trade

yup at home we used to get chicks which were dyed purple and greens, blues and all sorts of colours, it is absolutely awful, the dyes that they use are carcinogenic, and the birds end up dying a horrid death. they are more often than not, bought by wealthy arabs, for their kids (who pester them for the bird) the bird is fun for about a minute, then the poor thing is neglected, as well as in pain. it is really sad. fortunatly the government is beginning to review thier laws on animals, and they are finally coming around. next to tackle will be the painted fish/dyed fish whatever you want to call them.

kat :)
