I am soooo excited, because my platys have just started to breed. :hyper: I bought 6 of these babies off of aquabid and had them shipped... they're the first fish I've ever had mailed to me. :) Does anyone know what the gestation period is for a Dwarf Platy? :dunno:

hmm... well, if they already were fat when u got them, u can excpect them to give birth within the next two weeks.

i've got some as well, but no gravid spots on mine yet. :/ i'd imagine that the gestation is ~6 weeks just like most of the other livebearers.

i've been getting mine from PetSmart for about $1 each--so cheap and so cute that i don't mind buying from the chain. have you seen any non-sunset dwarf platies? i love that red color, but i keep wondering if thats the extent of the collection.

I've never heard of dwarf platties.... could you post a pic? I'd love to see what they look like

I believe they come in different colors... I haven't been able to find any for sale, though. :/ They have the sunset variety at the Petsmart near me... but of the four I purchased originally, 2 died due to disease. :-( I didn't want to go through the agony of having more die on me, so I decided to buy 6 more off of a seller through aquabid. All fish arrived safely and have been disease free ever since I put them in my tank!!! :kana:

Awww! They are cute!

Just curious though...what makes them Dwarf Platies? They look like young Platies to me... :p Not saying they are...I'm just curious about this. Any other characteristics besides size?

Both their size and the fact that they tend to be slightly rounder in the tummy! :p A breeder I was talking to actually complained that his were starting to look like miniature balloon mollies. I'm going to try and keep them platy-looking by selectively breeding them.
