I see on here quite a lot of people saying they have a 'dwarf pleco' and am wondering what plecs people consider 'dwarf' ???(not of course ignoring the fact that several new smaller species have recently been described - I think it is safe to say that these will not be abundant in LFS just yet.)
In a human being termed 'dwarf' is a possibly offensive term form someone who has not achieved what would be considered a 'normal' or 'average' height and is actually a genetic or medical condition (I'm not a biologist so sorry for any offense - it is not intended)
So what do people mean when they use the term about a plec? Do they mean stunted? Do they mean 'oh the LFS lied to me and said it would only grow to 2" in my 30l tank'? or do they actually mean one of the smaller species such as bristlenose?
I am genuinely curious as someone who researched fish before buying and has learnt not to impulse buy no matter how lovely a fish is. I wouldn't buy a fish I didn't know the species of and would probably be cautious of any LFS selling something labled 'dwarf plec' same as 'mixed cichlids' etc....
Thoughs folks?
