Hi,

This morning one of the Gourami's that's in the tank died- he floated to the top after coming out of the piece of driftwood in the tank. I netted him and got him out....no signs of life, not moving or breathing or anything..
I left the net sitting in a container by the tank as housemate (whos fishtank it really is) could see it when he came back..

Anyway, I went across to the fishtank to look at the rest of them this afternoon, and thought I had maybe just better dispose of Rick (said dead gourami)...well I picked up the net and he moved....and upon closer inspection he was still breathing...!
So in my panic, I have put him in a poly bag (the kind you being your fish home from the shop in) and filled it with tank water and sat him in the tank...

Help?! should I just set him free into the tank, or what?

Any help would be appreciated

A fish named Lazarus

Well, if he is swimming around ok then let him go. Gouramis are Labyrinth breathers and can take in air when theres no oxygen in the water or if stranded. I take it you left him in the net on the side? If so then he would have stayed wet but i would add some stress coat to the tank and keep the light off for a while until he has fully recovered and eaten.
Keep us informed on him.

Thanks Black Angel... my panic reply crossed with yours.... I thought Gouramis were meant to be not very hardy...this one sure has changed my opinion... 5 hours outside the tank...geez

Will keep you posted

so technically a laybrythn(bad spelling) breather can stay on land without water?, lol that would be cool but cruel to do to a betta, have him sit on ur lap while ur watching tv

take it for walks

Might consider letting him chill in the bag for awhile before letting him loose.. if he is still weak and has any mean tankmates, they might take advantage of it being weak.

Just to let you know that Rick (said gourami) is back in the tank after some isolation and Stress Coat...

Vancouver: Rick the gourami is the mean tank mate

Is he still living??

if so you need to find out why he was floating on the top of the tank. The tank may be no so rich in oxygen so he may have been a bit stunned. so breathing water from the top of the tank.

Hi, all other fish in the tank are fine, and this morning so is Rick. Permanent aeriation in the tank due to an led light w/ air filter on it.

Just going to put it down to 'one of those things'

Thanks
