i haven't got any of this yet but from what i have read it is an easy to grow, low maintenace plant,( i might be wrong).
if i get this plant how do i get a nice, natural looking carpet.
does it grow better with high light, if sow how high, (wpg)

thanks in advance

There are several Eleocharis sprecies, pretty much all of them have been called "Dwarf" at some stage.

Luckily though, in my experience, all hairgrass species need similar things, reasonably good light, although not the excesses of some lawn plants. Water wise, they are not that fussy, but will always do better in more neutral conditions then overly alkali setups.

Because they have fine roots, they are easier to plant and maintain in a fine substrate, they tend to float free in coarser gravel.

We had a couple of pots of dwarf hairgrass... they've been in the tank for a few months and just recently they've sent out runners and have rooted nearby which is exciting! We have a coarse sand as substrate. Over the tank is a single lamp (can't remember wattage sorry) but there is also banana lily leaves over most of the surface blocking a lot of that out so I figure they don't need a huge amount of light really.
hth.
