Should be ok, it will grow quite slowly though. I had some in my 33G when I first started without CO2. I also had no idea about planting either and kept it in its pot. It grew quite well and even started carpeting from the pot. My lighting was 1 WPG T8 full-spectrum with reflectors at the time.

For the best chance of success separate the clump from its pot into 10-20 smaller portions and plant each portion an inch or so apart using tweezers. Do not shade either. A nutrient-rich substrate will help too.

Have you considered DIY CO2 or the Nutrafin unit? With 2 WPG you will certainly see better results and less risk of nuisance algae growth.

I've played around with DIY CO2, but i don't have anything to test the KH in the water. So i don't know if i got ever got around 20ppm. Should i get a test kit for KH and add CO2 or not? what would be the easiest way to keep it stable?

I'd buy a KH and a low-range pH kit. It is always nice to know the hardness and the pH your water is anyway.

The easiest way to get a stable CO2 with DIY or other yeast systems is to run two units, then change the mixtures alternately.
