I have a 15g Tall (US) that I am currently cycling. I am planning on putting 2 or 3 dwarf gouramis(1male and 1-2females) along with like 5-6 danios or mabey pencil fish. I want to make it well planted but it being a 15 gall TALL the lighting is somewhat weird for the plants I'm planning on getting plants that require less light because the last ones I got died.

I know dwarf gournamis like to make bubble nests, but do they have to? because the floating plants may restrict the light for the otherplants and are somewhat annoying.

Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken, all the dwarf gouramis I've seen around Chicago are male. :/

To answer your question, no, they don't have to make bubble nests. I have a Dwarf Flame in a 10g with tons of floating Hornworth and heavy filtration. He was a juvie when I bought him, and is growing up quite nicely. Beautiful colors. He also gets live bloodworms once a week, so his coloration is incredible.

BTW, Do you have incandescent or fluorescent lighting on your tanks? :dunno:

What kind of plants did you have that died?

Are you feeding them? How long are you leaving the light on?

Yeah I kinda noticed the all male dwarf gouramis whichs is wierd since don't they fight?

If I only get 1 for my 15 gallon would he be lonely?

Fluorescent.

I forgot :/

I didn't feed them any thing.

Howdy
Cometcattle is right about the male only policy that most lfs seem to be happy with.
The problem with labrynth fish is that they need an airgap between the water line and the lid which can be quite unsightly.
Try using plant food, the type you rake into the gravel seem to work best and is fairly cheap.
As for the dwarf's they seem to be happiest when there are floating plant's but also the water level is very low, therefore keeping them is best when with other labrynth fish.
I had a tank specialy made through a glass merchant specially for my labrynth and there more than happy and it's only 9",12" (inc airspace) deep but 48x18 are the other dimensions.
That said most people won't go to such extreme measures to spoil there fish.

But in answer to the original question.
YES i'd use floating plants and most important is to buy plant food.
