So i have a 40.8L tank which currently only has 2 inhabitants viz. 2x Dwarf Gouramis.

and id like to add a VT Betta to the tank with a few peppered catfish and a plec.

also wanted to check if 40L tank is good enough to keep 2 Dwarf Gouramis....if i need to split them?or not?

or would it be better to put in female betta instead of male betta?

any help would be appreciated

DONT get a betta goramis and bettas are in the same family and will fight and it will end in injery or death. the two gouramis should be fine as long as there not both males. you could add 6 corys and 4 ottos which are just like really small plecs

in a large tank you can keep gouramis and bettas very happily - BUT not in a tiny tank like yours hun it wouldnt work you would end up with some casualities due to territorial problems
i have 40+ female bettas with , dwarf gouramis - males and females and honey and red robin gouramis both seces - and all live happily - apart from the odd squabble between the betta girls - they are even in with apistos and rams - 300l tank

In my 400 l corner tank i have 10+ females , betta imbellis , betta enisae , betta simorum and sparkling gouramis also living happily

I have a 70L tank with 2 male dwarfs and a betta, several guppies and neons. The betta and dwarfs don't bother each other at all, the 2 male dwarf gourami's have their run in's from time to time, however the plants provide plenty of places to hide and any nipping that starts is over very quickly.
