One day I have 2 healthy looking neon gourami's in my 55 gal ... they never fought ... they lived at opposite ends of the tank.
Then, with no warning I find one dead with not a mark on him. The other didnt look sick or hurt but something about him seemed not quite right. He looked sort of wild eyed ... if a fish can look that way.
So I put him in quarrintine and he died 5 days later with no obvious cause

Water params Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 10 (as always) pH 7.2

Do these guys often die without warning?

I'm not going to replace them with the same fish kind of fish becuase someone just gave me some paradise gouramis

:rip: Castor and Pollux

Yes, unfortunately, dwarf gouramies often die without warning. It's usualy internal bacterial infections that get them first and kill them quickly. Your other fish probably won't contract it if this is what it was but do keep a close eye on them in case. Congrats on the paradisefish. I expect you have macropodus opercularis? Do you have a pair? These can be quite aggressive and keeping two males together is almost as risky as keeping male bettas together. They are very good looking fish though and have interesting characters and behaviour as well.

Other tank ocupants are still looking ok... I'll watch them though.

The paradise fish are these:

They are juviniles ... about an inch ... at the moment and I *think* I have either 2 males and 3 females or 1 male and 4 females
I got them from a breeder who was cutting back her stock ... she says they are like the rabbits of the fish world

He's stunning! That's a wonderful blue color and it sounds like you have quite a few. Just don't add any more gouramies now and watch the males if you have 2 as they may get quite violent when they are older (hopefuly not).
