I have 3 Dwarf Gourami's two females 1 male. My male is acting very odd. He is hanging around the bottum hideing, sluggish, not eating and he looks not so vibrant anymore but faded colors. There is only one physical sign i have noticed but maybe it is me? you can see in the image below where I'am pointing out, this area is buldged out not sure why. I haven't seen his poo yet to diagnose of an internal issue.

How old is the gourami? How long have you had him?

Some basic tank stats/water test results would help but listlessness in DGs is usually something along the line of dwarf gourami disease, an as yet unpinpointed collection of viruses/infections that are common in these fish and usually fatal. :(

I've lost four to it in the space of two years, despite buying from reputable sources; here's a pic of one of them to illustrate the final stages of the condition. When they start to bloat, it's game over.

the picture i posted is not my gourami, i took it off google to demonstrate where i am talking about. I've had him for about 4 months or so he came from a well good shop very clean and no diseased fish. his area (circled in the pic) is kind of like buldging out . it's not as big as the picture you posted, but see near the front area it is like a small pea size bump. my two females are fine and happy as can be so far.

I lost my beloved honey gourami too with this. I thought it was dropsy but aparently not. It starts off a very slight swelling and then gets bigger - I had to put mine to sleep :-(

Colin very kindly pointed out what it was for me -

Dwarf gouramis have problems with Tuberculosis and an irido-virus. Both a lethal and kill every fish that's infected. It isn't caused by inbreeding but from contaminated breeding stock and ponds in Asia. If you can find locally bred fish then they should be free of these problems. However, virtually all gouramis come from Asia and they are normally infected upon arrival into your country.

Im not going to buy the dwarfs again as apparently these are the only gourmis infected.

okay, still not sure which he has, but will this effect the other fish in the tank?? he is eating now tho but acting sluggish and sitting at the buttom.

he keeps building a bubble nest in the breeder. i fed him some pease.
