hi.
i have a jewl 180 tank.
various fish who are all well and fine.
NitrAte levels ect are all fine.
regular water changes are made.
temp is 78 degrees.
woke up one day to find my 8mth old dwarf gourami laying on the bottom of the tank.
inspected the fish no signs of damage to body from other fish or external illess.
so now its in a quaranteen box but its just laying on its side and cannot seem to upright himself.
looks like its lost his buoyancy .
he tries to upright himself but he has no luck.
he,s feeding fine.
but he,s lost his tail looks like its been nipped away by other fish.
not sure if this would cause him not to keep upright.
i,ve asked at various pet-shops but all with different answers.
i,ve treated the tank for swim-bladder disease as suggested from one pet-shop.
the cycle from this treatment is nearly ended and the fish dosen,t seem to have improved.
the product i used is interpet swim bladder treatment number 13.
i,ve also added melafix for 7 days to the tank.
he,s been like this for 7 days now.
tried changing his diet no change, body is not bloated.
someone suggested he may have a internal bacteria infection and i should treat it with maracyn 2.
which i haven,t done yet but i,ve never used this product.
any help would be very helpfull.

what actually are your water stats, what else is in the tank anything new added recently? Dwarf gouramis get sick very easily.

can,t seem it being my water as i have 3 males and 3 female dwarf gouramis in the tank as well.
and there all fine.
my test kit has just run out and will be getting a new one today and post my water stats.

Don't mean to hijack your thread, but I have the exact same problem with one of our dwarf Gouramis and treating him for swim bladder hasn't worked. He still sits at the bottom of the tank and doesn't act like our other Gourami.

Hopefully someone has an answer for our problem!

Yes it does sound like swim bladder and once it has advanced hard to cure.
Is the fish heavy breathing also.
Is the tummy area bloated, another sign of a bacterial infection is darkening in colour.

no sign of discolour, no bloated body,he seems perfect except for the fact he can,t swim upright.
managed to get my water tester kit, brought a complete kit box to test all the ranges in the water.
so tomorrow i will have a better idea if theres a problem with the water.
