Are OK together? I wanted to experiement a bit with cherry barbs in my new tank that I just got yesterday but if it doesn't work out I have room in my gourami tank. I only want to keep that as a back up though if I know that they will all get along.

Yes, hypotheticaly they'd get along but I don't know how many of each or what size tank you have so I can't say about your situation specificaly. BTW, incase you didn't know, cherry barbs are not a schooling fish so keep them as pairs and give them space as they are actualy a little territorial.

Well, I was going to get three (1 male, 2 female) as that is what I had been reading about them although I can consider just a pair if that is better. If they work in my new tank they would only be sharing a ten gallon with one other fish and maybe a snail (or ghost shrimp if I can find them). If that doesn't work I would move them to a different ten gallon with a gourami and five neon tetras. But that would likely only be until I could return them as I have reserved that space for some dainty corys which I am just waiting for the LFS to get in. This is all in theory anyway since it's gotten to be that there is only one LFS that I trust (maybe two depending) and if they don't have them I'm not going to get them. They are predominently a marine store so their freshwater stock is limited although exceptionally healthy.

A trio would be fine - in fact, that's better than a pair. I only said pairs in case you wren't aware that they aren't schoolers as most people preffer to have as many of the colorful males as possible. :)

Cool, thanks! I always appreciate your input. I stopped today and got to healthy looking females and male. I hope they like it here. :) I also picked up a few ghost shrimp. I was surprised the store had them, they rarely do around here anymore.

The cherry barbs, one male and two female are doing quite well in their new tank. :) Moving them will be unnecessary after all. Thanks for your help!

Hey! Just spotted this thread and you've gone for almost exactly as I did in my tank.

I've got 3 honeys, a trio of cherry barbs (1m & 2f), 10 neons and 7 Amano shrimp. Will be adding pygmy corys next and finally a pair of rams once everyone has settled in okay.

That's bizarre that you've gone for the same selection.

How are your guys getting on? Mine all seem very happy together - so far anways!

I actually didn't have to combine them after all. I had a ten gallon with the dwarf gourami and neon tetras and was waiting on the dainty corys from the LFS. I was setting up another tank and was putting in the cherry barbs with a betta and wanted to know if it didn't work if I could put the cherry barbs in with the gourami and tetras. Anyway, it did work but I moved my betta for another reason so I have the original ten gallon with the gourami etc and a second ten with the cherry barbs, ghost shrimp and a different betta behind a divider. If I had a bigger tank I would combine them all but if I do that now I won't have room for the corys when they come in. It is interesting that we picked pretty much the same stock. I love all my little guys.
