Absolute minimum would be 5 gallons. :) Only trouble is he'd need a cycled filtered tank and filtering tanks that small can be problematic. Alternatively use a tiny filter and do small water changes every few days anyway. Can't be too careful with these lovely but sensetive fish.

thanks mis dip dabs. i got another question now. i was wondering if could keep one in a 10 gal with 2 trios of guppies and some fry(8 ranging for 2.5 weeks to a few days old....parents wont eat em :S ). i will give the fry to a lfs when they are old and start to get color......or feed em to my mbuna while they are small...idk.

Hang on....do mean 6 adults and 8 fry? :/ Because the answer would have to be no. The tank is overstocked already. It's not worth risking the health of your gourami for that.

ya it is 6 adults and 8 fry. i guess ill get a seperate tank for him if i get a dwarf gourami. hell be ok on his own right?

Yes, Gouramis like to be solitary. They are territory builders, and will fight to gain territory. They just don't fight to the death like bettas, although it could happen
