Hi

I'm currently tackling Whitespot infection in my tank andam applying WS3 andsetting the temp to 82 degress. I have a pair of Dwarf Gourami which have been fine upto now but have notived that the female has a sore on her left gill. This seems to have occurred at the same time as the White spot breakout but it is obviously different. Today she is very lethargic (more than previously so I fear the worse !). does anyone have any idea what it is and how to cure, bearing in mind I'm currently treating for White spot ?

I should also point out that the Whitespot appears to be affecting the other fish although my Clown Loach is showing most spots !

Thanks

Kevin

Hi

I should point out that the water test last night showed all fine apart from Nitrates which were 25 mg/l !

Thanks

That's really bad look like the flesh is being eaten away, can you issolate the fish, is it breathing heavily, as it going to need a bacterial med as well as parasite.

Unfortunately don't have a quarantine tank. The breathing was heavy but seems to have slowed. The fish is definitely lethargic. It's a real shame as I've had this fish since November. The tank btw has been runing since September 2005.

Have applied Myxazin topically to the fish tonight but I'm still medicating for Whitespot as I mentioned ! The whole tank seems to be in a mess at the moment and I guess it's all down to Nitrate's continually rising. This could be due to a Neon Tetra which went missing and we neve found it after removing all of the gravel, flilter etc. The thought was that maybe one of the Clown Loach had a go at it but they're really too small for this !

The Ammonia and Nitrite all seem to be zero but Nitrates are my big problem. Also have been doing 10 ltr (out of 125 ltr tank) every few days but this doesn't seem to be enough.

Maybe time to throw all away and start again !

Well the gill is a mess sorry, and not being able to issolate the fish not much to do, as it needs a very good antibiotic really, how long as it took to get like that, it could be a parasite as well like gill flukes which have caused a bacterial infection on top.

Thanks for the response wilder. The infection appears to have started at the weekend and developed quickly. I have come to the point where I think I'm going to loose alot of fish due to this Whitespot outbreak ! It's quite upseting.

So enough is enough and I've ordered an external filter (Aqua Pro) and also a UV filter to try and prevent these disasters ! I realise that the Nitrates still need to be kept in check with regular water changes but hopefully will have better success then.

As for now well still trying to battle with Whitespot !

:S

Have you raised temp to 30, added aeration, also are you using full dose with the clown loaches and tetra's.

Yes raised to 30 and also always using aeration. I've halved the dose of the med for the Loach ! What med do you recommend. I'm using WS3.

Thanks

If the clown loaches are coping with the half dose i would increase the dose abit, not the full dose though you could gradually build up to that if they seem to cope with it.
What's it say in the instruction with clown loaches and tetra's about using the full dose.

Yes it says to use half doses for non scaly fish !

Sucks, it going to take a while see as it's only half dose, how long have you been treating them for.

Since the weekend ! The problem is I go away on hols on Sat morning for 4 days. I guess I can continue when I get back !

Sorry four days, just noticed, it's going to take alot longer see with only having half dose, will have to be patient, do a water change before you go, and add the med back to the water removed, check equipment epecially the filter give it a clean to make sure it won't get blocked while you are away.

Do you trust anyone to add the med while you are away.
