Hi everyone…new to the forum.
I’m having trouble finding female dwarf gouramis ( colisa lalia) but I want at least one more dwarf gourami in my tank.
I know males can be belligerent to their own kind, but I might want to gamble on it as they are my favorite fish. Has anyone mixed males of subspecies without aggression between them ? My tank is 46 gallon, moderately planted with artificial plants,
soon to introduce live plants such as swords and val.

female dwarf gouramis aren't normally imported because they aren't very colourful (they are silver).
If you ask your LFS they might be able to order you one in.
You can mix different colour forms of the dwarf but they do argue a bit if there isn't enough cover, floating plants and hiding places.

IME you have no hope of 2 males living together with no females unless you have a huuuge well planted tank!

You shouldn`t have to much trouble getting females our LFS has them in on a regular basis, i have kept more than 1 male in a tank of similar size. I think the key is to have a large number of them, this seemed to dissipate the aggression of the dominant one, obviously plenty of plants are usefull.
