Hi all
i was just wondering if u know of any community dwarf cichlids that could breed in the community tank besides rams, kribs and red flag chested cichlids.i would perfur
a cichlid from ethir asia like badis badis or an african one like butterfly cichlid.they must be common coz i live in australia

The only African cichlids I can think of that are even remotely appropriate for most community tanks would kribs or butterfly cichlids. Certainly among the commonly available ones.

Your options would be much greater with the South American cichlids...

african butterfly cichlids are probably your only option for Africans
not too sure about badis badis -_-

what about Keyhole cichlids, theyre dwarf acaras and are really really peaceful(but theyre New World

look here

badis badis is not actually a cichlid , but a nandid , and classified with leaf fish .
They come from India and Asia .

Mine have bred in the community tank in my sig .

Not many choices in Africans , try posting in new world .

The Dwarf African butterfly cichlid [ try Google ] not sure of the scientific name , they change from time to time [******* Thomasi ] They have behavior traits similar to new worlds and might be a good choice , what size tank ?

Mine bred in a community tank [ the one in my sig , several years ago , not the current tank mate inhabitants though ]

a 20 long or a 30 , with three breeding pairs already in there I'm not sure what else you can add . Maybe the dwarf Af butterfly , see how it goes , may be pushing it with four breeding pairs in a 3 footer even if they are small.

Do the kribs push around the rams red chested flag [ is that lateacara cuviceps or dorsiger ?] cichlids ?

I'm curious , I 'd like to add a female krib to my tank , but I know they can be mean and could have the upper hand ,or fin  I have kept them with larger fish , nothing the same size or smaller .

I bought my badis badis badis from live aquaria.com .

I couldn't find any local to me , so on line it was .

I bought 6 in June or July , one disappeared within a week , they were very small when I got them and my tank is kind of big .....compared to them any way ..

Of the remaining 5 I have 3 males ,and 2 females . My son posted some pics of some of mine earlier tonight in the pictures forum .

They breed pretty regularly and are growing well .

Today I got a pair of nancara anamola and 4 sparkling gouramis for my big tank, These guys will be in quaretine for a few weeks , then I'll be looking for a pair of curviceps 2 female cockatoo apistos and maybe 1 female krib .

Though only the krib is an african cichlid

Good luck finding them .
