Eventually when my tank cycles (2 months and counting) I have been looking at getting some dwarf cichlids. But not too sure which ones to get.

Any recommendations? I've got a decent sized tank, but its a communal tank so am I limited on certain species?

What size tank and what communal fish do you have? Loads of dwarf species to choose from.

Ive got a 200 litre, planted tank.

At the moment ive got Tiger barbs, Odessa barbs Zebra Danios and some indian gouramis

A personal favourite of mine are the curviceps (just picked 8 up today) and the Laetacara dorsigera, both very peaceful and would be ok with the other fish you have. There are other species of laetacara have a google :) there are also lots and lots of apistogramma species, the more comon are the Cacatuoides which I have personally found to be the more peaceful.

I din't realise they were so many colour variations of the Curviceps, the only one ive seen are the white with the black spot. The apistogramma are quite cool aswell and tbh the Cacatuoides were the ones i was looking at. Are they fine to mix species then?

What about Kribensis and Rams?

I have a trio of Apisto cacs, and they are great fish, but go after anything in my tank when they are spawning (which seems to be every other week), so they can be quite aggressive. The barbs will be able to hod their own, and gouramis should stay closer to the top, so should be okay.

Apistogramma Hongsloi are a favourite of mine :) beautiful blue/red/yellow shades from them

I went to a store close to me, it was the first time I'd seen cockatoo cichlids in the flesh. So I brought a pair! ( i think there triple reds)

It seems every time I see any dwarf cichlids they always have kris or rams.....

Ive got a 300L tank and have gold rams, Blue rams and have recently added a pair of Apistogramma borellii (umbrella cichlid) and a pair of Apistogramma cacatuoides (dwarf cockatoo cichlids) sunburst orange... so far so good, the rams are curious but leave the new additions alone, plus i have small slate cave that the rams cant go into.. good luck with your tank
