Hi all

Ive just bought a new tank and im hoping to stock it with some dwarf cichlids but needed your advise. the tank is a river reef 48ltr (think thats 10 gallons, 12 us gallons)

From what ive read i might be able to put 2x Kribensis 1x Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid's 3x Agassiz's Dwarf Cichlid's and 2x Ram's. I used one of those calculators and it said there wasnt any problems with it being over stocked or that aggressive toward each other but i think your experience would give me a better idea on what can go in.

Im thinking maybe some like 2x Kribs or Rams, maybe 6 white cloud mountain minoes and a couple of otos but that was a bit of a guess on my part.

Anyway any advise would be cool

Thanks

Muzzy

Hi Muzzy
Not sure what calculator you used but it safe to say that its rubbish,

your current suggestion of a single pair with a few minnows or similar dithers is on the right route, and with good maintenaince is doable

Im glad you said, i thought it was a lot of fish for the amount of room.

If im to go with a pair of cichlids which would be the best? will kribs or rams be ok with 2 males or would they have to be 1 male 1 female? Im not keen on getting babies if i from a male and female.

If you have any suggestions please say :D

well kribs are the more aggressive and could cause problems in such a small tank, But, Blue Rams are very sensitive and in a small tank it will be hard to keep the water at a stable level,

I would go for a pair of Bolivian Rams or Cockatoo Apistos and 6 of one of the following species, WCM Minnows, back neons, Cardinals or Harlequinns.

Once the tank is cycled you can add the 'dithers' and allow them a month or two to settle in before adding the cichlids

Kribensis can grow to 8cm/3" so these will need a 76cm tank, the Rams would need a slightly bigger tank (around 60 litres), the same applies for the Apistogramma.
