hi all just wondering if a few of you experts could educate me as to what dH and PH of water is best to keep bolivian rams and or kribensis in and can they be kept in the same tanks ? ive read various fish profiles and the mostly contradict each other so thats why im asking

soft water fish Ph 6.0-7.5 i wouldnt keep bolivian rams with kribs there would be a fair bit of aggression plus bolivian rams are south american and kribs are african you find with most cichlids its best not to mix the continents

I know it is not ideal but it is what I have. I have kept my bolivian rams and apistogramma caratuoides at a Ph of 8. They have thrived for a year (look awesome, are active and feed well) but the apistogramma couple have never spawned to my knowledge. Keep in mind both of these are mostly tank bred these days so should be able to live in a wider Ph range than wild. That is my excuse anyway.

As karin says if the fish are reared locally they should be ok, the only sure way to find out is to try a couple
As for compatability I would think that you would have a better chance the larger the tank as with all territorial fish

the tank involved is a 125l 4 foot tank with loads of caves (will try and get a pic) the dilema i had was i looked at 1 site and my perametres matched both kribs and bolivians so went and got a pair bolivans to go with the kribs after 2 days of trying to catch my agressive rainbow shark and took him back to the lfs, the bolivians have now settled in at 1 end of the tank and the kribs have thier home at the other end of the tank in th cocoanut shells, and now have 5 golden barbs for sort of dithers but they are acting shy since they only arrived today

Hope it works out. The caves on the right look fantastic. I've wanted to keep rams as well but was under the impression they couldn't survive in higher ph levels, which my tap water naturally has. The lfs near my house has several awesome looking rams but I had to resist taking one home.

thanks ive checked my ph and its between 7.1 and 7.2 my other tank is 7.5 ? the caves you like took me 3 hours to build and most of it was chopping them out of 4 large chuncks. at a rough count up ther is abou 40 different hidy holes as i was going to have a mbuna set up but the size of the adults didnt match my tank volume

I love the stacked work you did there with the stone. I thought Bolivians preferred pH of 6.0 - 7.0, but it sounds like yours have done okay in 8.0.
