Hi guys,

I currently have a 60l planted tank with a breeding pair of dwarf cockatoo cichlids and fry and a few tetras.

I am looking at upgrading to a 160-180l tank. I would like to keep some more dwarf cichlids. Would a tank of this size be OK for the cockatoos, a pair of german blue rams, a pair of kribs and possibly a pair of agassazi dwarf cichlids? Whats the maximum number of dwarf cichlids I could keep in this size tank with the chance of breeding and raising a few fry?

Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks

I would def say no to having all four of those pairs. I would think that you could maybe get away with another pair in the bigger tank if there is enough foliage and decoration to break up the tank so the inidividual pairs could form their own territories. Any one of the species would work well as a community pair with your cockatoos you have already, but again, just the one pair, or else there will be some major battles for space :good:

Thanks,

Could I keep some Tanganyikan shell dwelling cichlids in with the dwarf cichlids? Could I keep more of these? Thanks for the quick reply!!

african cichlids have a different social structure as well. I am not 100% familiar with shell dweller social behavior but I know their bigger cousins have a very aggressive personailty and require large social structures to stem that aggressiveness. I believe that any african cichlids in with typical tropical fish means that the other tropicals will get their butts kicked. So the long answer that rocknurworld said quickly is no, there is a high probability that it wouldn't work
