I was just curious, because my friend pulled it off with a firemouth and a betta...Good Idea or no? I was thinking along the lines of Neolamprologus multifasciatus (shell dweller)
as it's only about an inch or so.

i think most cichlids dislike fancy-finned fish. i tried a female betta with a krib, and the krib chased the betta nonstop.

I wouldn't chance it unless you are able to keep the betta separatlly if things don't work out. Bettas also have the chance of being aggressive themselves.

Not a good idea at all, the shelldweller would kill your betta, bettas are aggressive, but wouldn't stand a chance. Not to mention betta prefer a PH of 7 or below while Lake Tang. cichlids (which includes shelldwellers) need a much higher ph of 8.5 or more.
