Sugar coating and nicely nicely? I don't think so
Just thought I'd share a couple of pictures of my mother's Betta Duncan, and his tank.
I originally bought the 5 gallon tank at a car boot sale for £5 and fully intended to put shrimp in it. But then mother piped up and said " well the only place it'll fit is the dining room and if I have to look at it I want a say as to what goes in it rambleramblemuttergrumbleblahblah I don't want shrimp I want a fish they're more interesting to watch"
The short and the short of it is, I was moaned into not putting shrimp in it. So I had to explain at great length what she COULDN'T put in it, and gave her the 3 logical options. Endlers, Guppies, or a single Betta. She insists that guppies are a childs fish and decided on a betta ( although I think 5 gallons is on the small side personally ) .
SO. After setting up the tank and filling the filter with well used and bacteria laden media from my Eheim that's running the 30 gallon in my room, We left the tank overnight and the next day took a trip to a nearby garden centre/petstore that also has a reasonable fish department. They had 2 males in stock ( in with guppies which was unfortunate but better than nipping tetras or a tiny cup ) I advised mother to choose the most active of the two, and in her time honoured tradition of having appalling taste in music, she named him Duncan, after that shoefaced singer in the boyband, Blue. Because he is blue ( she isn't vastly imaginative when it comes to naming animals ) .
So, 3 months on, here is Duncan ( sometimes nicknamed hunkyDunc )
I did have a piece of bogwood in the tank with him, but a few days ago I noticed he had ripped his tail on something, and on close inspection discovered a small protrusion on the back bottom end of the bogwood. So I have taken it out and replaced it with a nice smooth ornament instead. I am treating the tank with melafix to help the healing process but you can see the spilt here.
The tank ( he's at the back if you squint)
He is a very very active and happy little chap, very inquisitive and rushes to the surface anytime you open the lid. Always after something to eat!!
He loves to rest on his piece of Elodea , to the point where it's as bent as a 3 bob note but still thriving I might add
. He also has a strange ritual of circling the heater.
But well, there you go and there he is. Just thought I'd babble for a while.

Thanks, I added a few more clumps of Cabomba, Vallis and Elodia today, so he's living a right old jungle!
