how does our lights (eg. my living room lights, since my aquarium is in my living room) affect my fish? does it penetrate the water much?

hi, apparently yes! my tank seems to have reflective ends but not front and back, i don't have backing on the tank and can see through it, in a magazine article about kribs and their breeding habits it said to turn the tank light off at night but leave on your room lights, this simulates twilight and the mother krib leads the little ones back to their nest once they are safely in you turn your room lights off and it is night! if i get up in the middle of the night for the bl**dy cat and turn the light in the room on all my fish are 'asleep' on the bottom and it takes a moment or too for them to come round
er.. so answer to your question your fish may think it's suddenly dawn/twilight
