Dumb Petsmart

You should have used your test kit right in front of them. But still, the customer is always right in a caring business.

your ammonia should be 0 if your tank is actually cycled. i work for a private fish company and i wouldnt have sold you any fish if all your tank was showing was that much ammonia... let alone that the reason your fish died had nothign to do with petsmart...it was not their fault you got fish that picked on one another and it wasnt their fault your sister dropped the bag...everyone blames these places when alot of the time it was not their fault at all. i agree their testing might have been off..but why are you trying to cheat them out of a fish anyways?

well sorry to hear that.

however, i dont think in the long run it's gonna make a huge difference. fish don't really cost that much so its not hard to buy a new one.

i think it all depends on the petsmart and which employee you talk to. a week ago i bought a betta and five neons from them. 2 days later the betta spazzed and ate a neon. i wanted to keep the betta so i bagged the remaining 4 neons and brought them back to see if i could trade them for some mollies. not only did they say yes, but they gave me a refund for the neon that the betta ate, without even seeing his body! (i had flushed him earlier.)

maybe i just got lucky.

Well actually the fish didnt die from the result of the bag being dropped it was picked on by the other.. I believe the store is 100 percent at fault because any store that actually cared about the well being of their fish would have said that those two oscars werent the best choice to put together being as one will bully the other and due to the fact that they didnt they are at fault completely because the fish was bullied and there was no information given.. Even though you knew it was gonna happen they should have said were not gonna be held responsible for that in the event that it is killed. Instead of trying to make the few dollars knowing the fish likely wont make it and then refusing replacement..

im just sayin he said he knew they shouldnt go together...he knew they would die. should the store have said somthing, maybe, but we dont know what all was said in the store to begin with. for all we know they were warned.

Your ph has nothing to do with it, they don't add ph modifier to their water, so unless you have well water, or live far away from that particular store, your ph would be the same, but thats beside the point, the ph, unless its fluctuating is not going to kill your fish, you should contact the store manager and demand a refund for the oscar, as well as the test kit and ph modifier, try to remember the name of the idiot who sold you that stuff

EDIT: please be more careful in handleing your future fish, and in picking ones that will be compatible

sorry to hear that, i work for petsmart in the specialty department and the reason why petsmart has workers that dont have a clue some times is because they apply to petsmart thinking it will be fun working with all the fisheys and such, but after they work for a while they find it to be to much work then they quit or get fired. this happens quite often so the people who actually know what their doing at petsmart dont have enough time to train every body well enough before they leave, this creats several workers who dont know what their doing. I my self am trying to change this at my store and if anybody has any questions about petsmart fish and such please send me a message and ill try to get back to you (Im fairly new so i dont know every thing but i know a lot).
