we have had our platy for 5 weeks now, she was pregnant when we got her, she gave birth to 30 fry a week after (only six survived).

She is the only platy, sharing the tank with a barb, yesterday my daughter noticed that there is a black shadow on her tummy and she seemed fatter, my question is it possible that she is pregnant and how???

yes it's possible.
many livebarers can store sprem from previouse matings, this allows for the species to continue in the event of lack of males.
